Metta Threads is founded in the tradition of the artisan’s guild, which has for centuries provided a place for craftspersons to gather together to share and support one another’s work. We hope to support the growth of initiatives including:

· growing local flax (organically)

· raising local sheep, goats, lamas, or rabbits for their fiber (compassionate raising of animals)

· dyeing with natural plants and minerals (beets, onion skins, lichens, goldenrod, berries)

· spinning with drop spindles and spinning wheels

· knitting, crocheting, weaving, felting, sewing, quilting

·.natural cordage making (milkweed, dogbane)

· using recycled cloth and clothing (patches, shredded for stuffing, braided rug fabric, quilts)

Metta Threads invites fiber makers to enjoy each other’s company through the sharing of skills and common work with the additional practices of both singing and silence.

Bolivian village women, dyeing their wool with natural,
local dyes, spinning by hand, and weaving beautiful cloth,
offer us inspiration from the indigenous wisdom of their traditions.
