The Tea Ceremony is an honored practice
in many contemplative traditions. To sit together in a circle and
sip tea with mindfulness invites a simplicity that calms the mind
and supports us to be peaceful in the delicious fragrance of the
moment.
In the spirit of the Metta Prayer, we may offer our
love to all through our connection with the water in this tea. The
rains that fall on Asian mountains flow into the sea and rise again
as clouds, offering rain again to the Green mountain streams here,
the source of this tea.
Harvesting tea herbs from the organic gardens and
wildcrafting plants sustainably from the fields and forests, we
blend teas to nourish the whole being…such friends as lemon
balm, chamomile, sacred basil, clover, raspberry, and nettle.
Steeped in pure water in the pottery teapot, the tea
brews and steams. Every sensation is an opportunity for awareness.
We may contemplate the source of the water, the herbs, the clay
in the pot and the cups, and the wood that heats the water. Everything
becomes everything else in the rhythm and cycles of life. This time
with the tea is a quintessential practice for understanding and
embodying contemplative ecology.

Our Metta Tea offerings include:
~ Pure Tea…a likeness to the traditional tea
ceremony with meditation, silence, and mindfulness.
~ Forest Tea...a walking meditation in silence,
we walk to a place in the hemlocks and mosses to the edge of a
mountain stream. Kept warm in our day packs, we serve tea and
breathe in the fragrances of herbs and balsam. This is a time
to feel the company of others in the grace of nature.
~ Garden Tea…served in the center of the garden,
a time for garden songs, sipping tea, and tasting garden delights.
~ Dharma Tea…this is an opportunity to experience
the wisdom of the Buddha in our midst. Sipping tea, we engage
in Council Process and muse on the mysteries of the Now.
Metta Tea times can be found
on our calendar,
usually at “tea time” from about 4pm to 5pm.
All are welcome.
We invite a small donation, as you are moved, to support
the work of
Metta Earth Institute.
May all beings benefit.
